Hunting Maps and Safety Tips

Hunting, particularly deer hunting, is a popular activity on Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) property. Wildlife found throughout MWCD public access lands includes deer, wild turkey, squirrel, rabbit, waterfowl and other migratory game birds. Through a longstanding memorandum of agreement, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) manages fish and wildlife on Conservancy District lands and lakes.

Monday, November 27 marks the beginning of Ohio’s deer gun season which runs through December 3 with a bonus weekend December 16-17. Hunters will be taking to the woods at many of the MWCD facilities. For information including hunting dates, bag limits and other info, CLICK HERE to visit ODNR’s website.

We always remind hunters to be careful and respectful of other visitors this time of year. While you may be within your rights to hunt, safety is ultimately the hunter’s responsibility. Please be courteous to our neighbors, don’t trespass and be aware of the restricted areas. MWCD properties have irregular boundaries and certain areas such as campsites, marinas, residential areas, public roads and parks require a 500 foot no hunting zone from their boundaries so it is important to be cognizant of these limitations.

Remember, hunters are required to wear a minimum of a hunter orange vest while hunting. Those considering visiting any of our public areas may want to wear it as well as a precaution. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the park office.

Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hunting!
